Volusia County full of bounty,
How does your garden grow?
With palms, mimosas,
Aromatic flowers for your nose…ah,
And honeybells all in a row?
Looking for a heady cocktail of perfume, color and lush green foliage? The Florida growing season is luxuriously long, and, lucky for us, the list of flowers, plants and trees that flourish here is just as extensive…
There are more than 2,500 species of palms, most of which are prevalent here in Florida. Other trees that thrive in the mild Central Florida climate include the Jacaranda tree with purple feathery foliage, fruit bearing trees including lemons, limes (Get those drink glasses ready!), grapefruit, oranges, tangerines, and even avocados, peaches as well as bananas. Plus, don’t forget the fragrant blossoms of magnolias, mimosas and orchid trees.
The large, colorful pink leaves of our infamous elephant ear leaves paint a pretty portrait here in Florida. As do the showy clusters of butterfly bushes, flowering hibiscus and golden shrimp plants. Begonias, orchids, and all types of lilies grace the list of over 1,000 varieties of Florida flowers. Caladiums, irises, amaryllis, dahlias and gladiolus can also add year-round enjoyment to Florida gardens.
