As gardening season progresses, unfortunately, so do our weeds and overgrowth, but edging your gardens, walkways and driveway can provide you with landscaping that appears cleaner and more professional…and keep all those veggies and flowers, happier and healthier!
One of the most important things you can do whenever you work in the yard is to choose your tools wisely. Armed with the proper landscaping implements, your edging project can become much more manageable and far less time consuming. For edging, a square shovel is the perfect tool to help you achieve that deep, straight edge you want, and it doubles as a handy clean-up tool!
Keep in mind that the deeper your edges, the more defined and easier they will be to maintain. That said, you’ll want to trace the edges of your gardens or pathways with a true cut about four to five inches deep.
After making that straight cut around your garden, follow the same path with a 45 degree angle, removing the earth between your cuts as you go. Having a wheelbarrow at your side is helpful for quick disposal.
Then, trim the edge of your work with a string trimmer to keep encroaching grasses at bay. For a well-manicured result, add a weed barrier topped with your choice of mulch or stone. Of course, Edgewater Yard Shop has a wide selection at your disposal, along with weed barrier which can also be helpful!
